Following up 9-11, Americans carried out their war in Afghanistan with the intention to topple up Taliban regime and so as to kill off terrorism living by it. After three months, Taliban Government surrendered completely but 7 years later, the Americans have not achieved their purposes. For 7 years, Bush gave up, American citizens complained and American soldier has wanted to go home. Now, the concern for the new president is whether to continue this war or accept a failure. And the answer seems to be that he doesn't want to lose. From Obama's point of view, the war will continue but the involvement of American will ease. But how? Military intervention, civilians persuasion and economic helps.
Should it be that more soldiers and weapons would be sent to Afghanistan? A different approach from Bush would be "soldiers not to fight, but to help train a new force, recruited mainly from the Afghans". An army would be positioned, not US army, but Afghanistan army.
To win a war, military is probably the rudest and stupidest thing to persist on. Quoted ancient Chinese commanders, "you win the people, you win the war". So would the president do something to win the people? How is he going to do it? Suggestions like building trusts to the Americans, building a pure Afghan government though simple would be useful.
Last but not least, economics is the most important aspect that any country would have to deal with. Think of it, in Afghanistan, job is a pretty big concern. Jobless people would be easy target for Taliban recruitment as they are willing to fight for money! So do you think creating more jobs will help to terminate Taliban resurrection?
This concern is brought up because as the economic crisis crash, America have to consider its expenditure. Money pouring for a not-worth-fighting war would be a waste!
